Plan for a successful spring semester
A new and exciting semester is beginning. As you start Spring 2024, it's a good idea to prepare for success.
Reflect on your fall semester. First, celebrate your academic and personal accomplishments! You worked hard and deserve to be proud of yourself. Acknowledging your successes, big or small, and the habits that helped you achieve them make you more likely to repeat them in the future. Next, identify areas of improvement. In what part of your life or your studies can you be more intentional? What habits do you need to build to support these improvements?
Identify one goal for the spring semester. Do you feel like your study habits could use a boost? Maybe you want to dedicate this semester to applying for internships or landing a research position? Once you set your goal, identify the first three steps you’ll need to take to achieve it. Jot them down somewhere for safe keeping, like your planner. Even better: Give it a timeline! By writing it down and setting deadlines, you’ll be more likely to hold yourself accountable.
Plan out the semester. Every semester looks different and presents new challenges. Grab your planner and your class/work schedule and spend some time mapping out what each week and month will look like. Make note of key dates, like scholarship deadlines, career fairs, midterms and finals weeks, and more. This is also a good time to identify key campus resources that could support your success, such as the Healthy Living Program, Financial Wellness Program and the Center for Academic Success. Don’t forget to track personal goals, such as monthly savings deposits, fitness routines or mental wellness check-ins.
Most importantly, prioritize rest. Research has shown that rest benefits both our physical and mental wellness. Even if you still have other commitments, such as work, it is important to make time to unwind and engage with the people and activities you love outside of school.
